Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a deep and abrasive form of exfoliation performed with a specialized tool used to “sand” the skin. The treatment triggers the body’s natural healing response to create new, flawless skin in place of the old, damaged skin through collagen and elastin production. Dermabrasion can be used for the treatment of:

  • Acne scars
  • Tattoo scars
  • Surgical or injury-related scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Skin lesions
  • Rhinophyma

After a Dermabrasion treatment, the skin forms a “crust” as it begins to heal. A week after treatment, the skin will be red and tight, like the after-effects of a chemical peel or other resurfacing treatments. When the skin finally heals, you’ll notice a youthful glow, smoother texture, and flawless appearance.

FAQs

Dermabrasion is an advanced exfoliating treatment that utilizes the body’s natural healing response resulting in the production of collagen and elastin to improve the appearance of the skin. Dermabrasion is performed with a rapidly rotating exfoliating tool. Your practitioner will offer an anesthetic to numb the area and, in some cases, a sedative during the procedure for your comfort.

Dermabrasion is safe for most skin types, though a consultation will help determine if this procedure is the best option for your goals. Some medical conditions or medications could result in negative side effects; However, your provider will ask questions to determine candidacy at your consultation.

At a minimum, it will take two weeks for the skin to heal after Dermabrasion treatment fully. It is common for it to take several months to see the effects of your treatment, though you will notice a slow progression toward your goals.

One Dermabrasion treatment should provide significant results to the affected area; however, a follow-up treatment is sometimes needed to achieve optimal results. Your provider will assess the treatment area to know if you are a candidate for a second treatment.
